February Faves

February, although short, was full of events and milestones in our home. New and exciting adventures for the kids, mainly Enoch and Ezra, and also for us as parents. Here’s a couple of my favorite things from February.

Amazing Spring-like weather: For those who dislike cold weather and snow, like me, a stretch of 60 degree weather in the middle of February was a treat. We were able to have a cook out- although snow has never stopped us, with our family and eat some delicious carne asada. We took the kids to the park multiple times, and I even got to go on my much-needed walks on the trail. We even got to enjoy some ice cream…outside…in the middle of February! It was perfect sweater weather. But of course, in typical bipolar Indiana weather, one day it was 71 degrees out and then next it was 43 degrees. Back to reality we were. It was nice while it lasted tho.

Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist: This book was perfect for what I have been struggling with for a while now- making time for what truly matters. Sometimes I get so caught up in all the chores and errands I have to do that I don’t make time to enjoy the “interruptions” of hugs and kisses my kids want to share with me.

It’s a book about leaving aside the fast paced, competitive, do-everything-you-can, please people, prove your worth, say yes to everything mentality that has slowly started to consume our society. It’s about realizing that before ministry, is family. That being present will always be more important and it’s what truly matters over being perfect. I encourage you to read it. Maybe you’ll realize how much-needed rest your soul and body need.

“You don’t have to sacrifice your spirit, your joy, your soul, your family, your marriage on the altar of ministry.”- Shauna Niequist

Can’t wait to see what March has in store, hopefully more beautiful weather!
